Benefits of Massage
Using a range of massage techniques and stretching exercises, an equine sports massage targets the soft tissue
of the deep and superficial muscles.
Massage stimulates blood flow and in doing so can aid the recovery of an injured muscle or simply
help remove stress and tension.
Massage can be beneficial to horses of all age groups, sizes and
breeds. It will:
· Improve Circulation
· Improve Stamina
· Increase Range of Motion
· Provide Comfort to Muscle Injuries
· Improve performance and enhances gait quality
With a good training
programme, massage will enable your horse to perform at its optimum level!
How often should a horse receive massage?
This depends on your horses level of work, his/her health
in general, conformation, injuries etc etc.
A typical horse being ridden on a regular basis
would ideally be massaged every four weeks. This gives enough time for the horse to feel the benefits of the massage and it
means your horse is being regularly assessed for sore muscles helping to
prevent a small problem potentially turning into a big problem.
For the older/retired horse a massage every 6 weeks would
be sufficient.
A competition horse in a serious training programme needs a massage
approx every two weeks because the physical demands on the horse are that much more strenuous.
If you horse has a competition planned then remember that massage cannot be
carried out three days prior to this. Please keep this in mind if booking a session.
